Resalta completes 12 MW biomass heating plant for Stellantis in Serbia

Resalta has completed a new 12 MW biomass boiler house at the Stellantis automotive manufacturing facility in Kragujevac, Serbia, marking an important milestone in the transformation of the site's industrial heating infrastructure.

The installation consists of three 4 MW biomass boilers and is designed to generate approximately 33,866 MWh of renewable heat annually, supporting the transition towards lower-carbon industrial energy supply.

Delivering large-scale biomass heating for industry

The new biomass boiler house has been developed to meet the substantial heating requirements of Stellantis' manufacturing operations.

Delivering a project of this scale within an active automotive production facility required close coordination across engineering, construction and installation activities, while taking into account the site's operational requirements.

The completed system provides 12 MW of installed biomass heating capacity, with an expected annual CO₂ reduction of approximately 6,770 tonnes.

A long-term energy partnership

The project is delivered under a 15-year Energy Service Company (ESCO) agreement based on a Design-Build-Operate-Transfer (DBOT) model.

Under this arrangement, Resalta finances the investment and supports the long-term operation of the new energy infrastructure.

Beyond the installation itself, reliable biomass supply is an essential element of the project's long-term performance.

The next phase of the energy transformation

The completed biomass boiler house is part of a broader energy transformation programme at the Kragujevac facility.

The next phase includes a 5 MW heat-pump system, combining 3 MW of heat recovery with 2 MW of air-to-water heat pumps, further supporting the transition towards more efficient industrial heat generation.

Sharing the project at SEE ENERGY 2026

On 4 November 2026, Resalta will present the project at SEE ENERGY 2026 in Novi Sad, Serbia.

During a dedicated Industry Clinic session, Andreja Pavlović, Commercial Director at Resalta, and Srđan Đokić, Technical Director at Wood Chips, will discuss the development and implementation of the project, including the technical and operational challenges of industrial biomass heating.

The session will highlight the importance of combining energy infrastructure with reliable fuel supply to support industrial decarbonisation.
